Who We Help

Menopause

Struggling with the often debilitating symptoms of menopause? Five Element acupuncture. traditional Chinese herbal medicine, and individualized nutritional counseling offered here at The Medicine Tree, can help sufferers find relief, wellness and even empowerment within the flow of life’s natural rhythms.

Menopause is defined as the complete cessation of the menses that occurs over an estimated 12 month period and is associated with the gradual loss of ovarian follicles. It is a natural part of a woman’s life cycle.  Common symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, sleep issues, joint pain, vaginal dryness, weight gain, heart issues, and many more. Menopause typically begins in a woman’s late 40’s or early 50’s. It starts with perimenopause, and physical symptoms increase in intensity and frequency as estrogen levels continue to decline. The combination of these symptoms can also result in depression and anxiety.

While menopause is recognized as a perfectly natural part of the life cycle, the symptoms can be extremely intense and interruptive to a woman’s ability to live her best life.

While hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can be effective for short-term use and temporarily alleviate symptoms, long term use of HRT drugs is not recommended due to the associated risks, as well as the tendency for menopause symptoms to resume as soon as a patient decides to stop using replacement hormones.

A study by the University of Pittsburgh found that acupuncture decreased hot flashes by 35% and insomnia by 50%!

Acupuncture, properly prescribed Chinese herbal medicine, and functional nutrition therapy help treat women with menopause by:

  • regulating hormones, providing a non habit-forming, safe alternative to long term HRT

  • improving sleep

  • reducing inflammation

  • reducing stress, which studies show acupuncture is very successful with, even over time

  • assessing diet and nutrient deficiencies with comprehensive lab work and individualized nutrition counseling and care plans

Acupuncture

Instead of chasing symptoms, Five Element Acupuncture treats each individual holistically (i.e. the whole person) by taking into account the mind, body and spirit.

Here at The Medicine Tree, we support the body’s natural processes by restoring balance and energy flow. Many of the symptoms of menopause are related to hormonal imbalance. Acupuncture has been studied extensively and proven to help regulate hormones. Once your body is brought out of the stress response and returned to that strengthened balanced state, it can focus on carrying out its miraculous processes as nature intended.

Patient Stories

“Dr. Roper has helped immensely with my menopausal symptoms. From hot flashes to night sweats, which came on suddenly and were extreme, she worked closely with me to come up with herbs and an acupuncture treatment plan that has been extremely effective. Underpinning this is the nutritional work with Keri Schroeder and ensuring my diet is right both for overall nutrition and help with menopause

My fellow women: Help is here!

You do not need to suffer with menopause. It can be a transitional time that is not one of suffering but rather one of positive transformation.”
