Who We Help

Endometriosis

Endometriosis affects approximately 3-10% of all females and 30-40% of those women are deemed infertile.  This diagnosis is defined by the presence of endometrial tissue in areas outside of the uterus. The exact cause is still unknown. Laparoscopy is the current most reliable method of diagnosis but  often times women go undiagnosed for decades. The severity and symptoms of endometriosis vary.

acupuncture can help reduce inflammation and pain, regulate the menstrual cycle and help optimize the uterus for conception.

Endometriosis is an inflammatory disease of the female reproductive system where parts of the lining of the uterus (the endometrium) can develop outside of the uterus, growing instead on the ovaries, fallopian tubes or even along the lining of the pelvis. It can carry no symptoms in some cases, but in many others it can cause symptoms such as:

  • painful and/or irregular menstrual cycles

  • bleeding between cycles

  • painful sex (dyspareunia)

  • Infertility signs

  • Fatigue

  • painful bowel movements

  • Chronic pelvic pain

  • Bladder related issues

Endometriosis can affect one’s ability to conceive, and often goes undiagnosed until one seeks treatment for infertility. Endometriosis is thought to have a genetic factor as it is more common for a woman to have or develop endometriosis if it runs in her family.

Acupuncture and herbs can help endometriosis by:

  • reducing inflammation in the body

  • targeting reduction of inflammation specifically in the uterus and pelvis

  • helping prevent further spread of endometrial tissue outside of the uterus

  • reducing the size of endometrioma (growths of endometrial tissue)

  • helping women achieve menstrual cycles that do not interfere with quality of life

Chinese Medicine has been shown to effectively modulate the progress of endometriosis, shrink lesions and cysts, and reduce symptoms all without harmful side effects.  Acupuncture and herbal therapies have been around for thousands of years!

Acupuncture

One study of patients with endometriosis treated with herbs and acupuncture versus those treated with mifepristone, a synthetic steroid that inhibits progesterone action, found that acupuncture and herbs treated endometriosis more effectively than the synthetic steroid. Acupuncture, herbs, and Traditional Chinese Medicine have an ancient history of effectively helping women fight back against chronic conditions like endometriosis.

At the Medicine Tree, we work hard to diagnose the underlying cause of your endometriosis. Typically, we see Blood stasis, Damp Heat, Spleen Qi vacuity or Kidney Yang vacuity. Clinically, it tends to be a combination of these pathologies.  After your initial intake, we will determine your diagnosis and lay out a treatment plan of action.

Patient Stories

"My diagnosis with endometrosis is what first led me to seek out treatment from Dr. Roper. Over the last several months Dr. Roper has taken the time to look at my entire health holistically in addition to pin pointing treatment to address the progression and treatment of my endometrosis.

The treatment at the Medicine Tree is the only relief that I have gotten from ongoing pain and other symptoms,

and my health has progressed considerably from where I started this year. I highly recommend Dr. Roper and her practice!"
