Who We Help
Anxiety / Panic
We are living in an age of anxiety. Anxiety disorders are the most prevalent mental illness affecting 18.1% of adults in the U.S. This adds up to be about 40 million adults.
“It’s a knot in your chest that’s always there lurking waiting to creep in and put seeds of doubt and worry into every thought.”
Chinese Medicine has been successfully helping people combat the symptoms of anxiety for thousands of years.
Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture were found to be more effective than a popular SSRI in a clinical trial. In fact, a meta analysis revealed that there is statistically significant evidence that Acupuncture is a successful treatment for anxiety. The combination of Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs and lifestyle adjustments can be a fast track to feeling calm in your body.
Anxiety disorders can be due to genetic factors, brain chemistry, triggering life events and life pressures.
There are many different types of Anxiety Disorders:
GAD: Generalized Anxiety Disorder
PD: Panic Disorder
SAD: Social Anxiety Disorder
OCD: Specific Phobia
PTSD: Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
PDD: Persistent Depressive Disorder

These disorders all tend to also have a cascading effect of co-occurrences of other issues like ADHD, Sleep issues, headaches, eating disorders, substance abuse and more
In Chinese Medicine, Emotional trauma shocks the system and can deplete yin and blood and this can leave the shen (heart spirit) unsettled.
This causes the feeling of restlessness, difficulty falling asleep, dryness, possible constipation, mental fog etc. Overstimulation of the heart and nervous system disrupt the stillness in the heart and the ability to be present. Anxiety tends to show up as worry about the future or the constant need to be moving and getting things done while also being overwhelmed by the endless to-do list. When yin and blood become depleted, your body’s energy and blood become stagnated. This causes Liver Qi and blood stasis that can lead to fire harrasing the heart. This causes emotional volatility, irritability, pain in the body, digestive upset, racing heart and palpitations.
At The Medicine Tree, we utilize Five-Element Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and Functional Nutritional Therapy combined with targeted lifestyle adjustments to get to the root of your anxiety. Anxiety disorders show up in a different way for each person. Some individuals have intense fears, heart racing, overwhelm while others feel a physical response in their body for example. Our goal is to find out how this disorder originally took hold and we work to quickly reverse and rebalance.
Patient Stories
"Liz has been such an instrumental part of my healing process. Her approach to acupuncture is guided by knowledge, intuition and kindness. Liz carefully treated my anxiety with needles, moxibustion, herbal medicine and therapeutic advice. She was gentle with me but also challenged me and held me accountable for my actions. She sent me home with great ideas to practice to help me settle and feel more connected to myself and others in everyday life. She gave me "homework"! I found her treatments so effective and valuable. I saw her once a week for a full year and my life completely transformed
I went from shaky and filled with anxiety that shuddered throughout my whole body to a calmer more settled person.
I found that through my treatments with Liz, I was able to feel more like myself and settle into who I really was. Instead of being consumed by fear and anxiety I was able to move through my life in a more easeful and fuller way. Not only that, over my year with Liz, I was able to get off my anti anxiety drugs and I felt amazing. She truly helped me become a person I never knew I was capable of becoming. I deeply miss my treatments with Liz. She held me with eyes of compassion, understanding and non-judgement. I highly recccomend Liz as a Chinese Medicine practitioner. She is a beautiful vessel of healing light in this world."

Patient Stories
"Liz has been such a strong resource for my family and I. We met with Liz almost a year ago to get help for our four year old daughter who has been clinically diagnosed with anxiety. We had tried a lot of interventions including behavioral therapy, craniosacral therapy, occupational therapy for sensory processing, and essential oils.
Liz saw our daughter for a small dose of acupuncture and prescribed a herbal tincture that has done amazing things for our daughter. She also recommend a number of diet additions and adjustments as well as manual techniques that we could perform on her for heat release and calming. I can honestly say that there is not one remedy that our daughter did not respond well to. If she wasn’t responding in the time that Liz expected, things were easily adjusted and tailored exactly to meet her needs.
Sleep patterns have changed, moods have changed, and overall we feel Liz has helped our little girl be the happy little lady she wants to be and is meant to be. We’re so thankful our lives have crossed paths with Liz and her talents."
