Who We Help

Mood Regulation

Anger, Grief, Lack of Joy or motivation

Emotions are our response to internal and external events.  They are there to help protect us.  They guide us in avoiding danger, making decisions, survival, and help us to thrive.  They are important in communication and understanding. Chinese Medicine recognizes seven emotions as a major causative factor of disease because they upset the physiological regulatory functions of the body. They are:

  • Fear

  • Anger

  • Joy

  • Worry

  • Grief

  • Sorrow

  • Freight (shock)

Until emotional trauma is processed, a person is continuously held back from their full potential.

Unresolved emotional trauma can impact a person’s choices, chemistry and the limits of a person’s physical and mental ability. When emotions are blocked or ignored they can damage health.

Here at The Medicine Tree, Dr. Roper is trained in Five-Element Acupuncture.  This style of acupuncture focuses on psycho-emotional issues primarily because it is believed that Body-mind-spirit is inseparable.

The Five Elements represent the energetic life cycle in nature, and thus within ourselves.

We have all of the elements in us but sometimes they get out of balance.

Wood: Springtime: Anger

Fire: Summer: Joy

Earth: Harvest: Worry

Metal: Fall: Grief

Water: Winter: Fear

If we constitutionally have a weakness in a particular element, the emotion that corresponds to that element will be difficult to balance.  For instance, if a metal element type suffers a loss of a dear friend, the grief they have will more likely stagnate and affect the lungs and large intestines. Fall time is all about inner reflection and letting go of what you no longer need so that you have room for newness and inspiration in your life. Just as the trees shed their leaves, we must shed our own. If we do not, we will have trouble making it through winter, the leaves will hold the snow, the tree limbs will break just as the weight of our own baggage will make thriving impossible. Dr. Roper can help you learn how the elements show up inside of you and to help you shed the old stagnated emotions and , heal trauma., and learn how the elements show up inside of you.
