Who We Help

Pain

Traditional Chinese medicine, properly prescribed Chinese herbs, and Five Element Acupuncture have been successfully treating pain for thousands of years. The CDC states that over 50 million Americans dealt with chronic pain in 2018, and it is the number one leading cause of long-term disability in the US.

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), studies show that acupuncture works particularly well on chronic pain such as back and neck pain, joint pain, osteoarthritis/knee pain, migraines and more.

Oftentimes people have been living with such pain for long periods of time, even years . There is a great need to counter chronic pain with sustainable, non-habit forming methods, as evidence supporting the efficacy of long-term opioid therapy for chronic noncancer pain is scarce. The Medicine Tree aims to get at what is causing the imbalance resulting in chronic pain and treating the issue at the root. We do this by evaluatinge each patient’s state of health, wellness goals, and how to best fit positive change into your their unique lifestyle.  lifestyles when we first meet with them.  because we understand that truly effective care requires a team effort with care providers and their patients.

We treat chronic pain at The Medicine Tree by:

  • activating natural painkillers in the brain such as endorphins, norepinephrine and serotonin

  • Calming systemic inflammation

  • , which is associated with many chronic conditions such as RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis), heart disease, diabetes, cancer, bowel disease such as Crohn’s Disease or ulcerative colitis, and many more

  •  Improving sleep, as studies show that sleep and chronic pain appear to be directly correlated

  • Offering comprehensive lab testing that can tell us more about our patients’ state of health regarding potential nutrient deficiencies and/or absorption issues that may be affecting how the body is fighting chronic pain

  • Creating customized, evolving nutritional plans with recommendations tailored to each individual

Within the scope of pain management, acupuncture works to calm excitatory response and the resulting overload of cortisol, known as the stress hormone.

We help bring the body out of the stress response, allowing it to re-focus on the countless number of crucial jobs it has that keep us functioning at our highest and best. The beauty of Chinese medicine is that it considers mind, body, and spirit when taking into account a person’s state of health. Each body is a set of working parts. If one part is not functioning at its best, it can throw the entire system off balance. This imbalance can manifest in a myriad of ways, including systemic inflammation. Every person responds differently to these imbalances in the body, and Five Element acupuncture’s ancient wisdom is rooted in discovering where it stems from and how to restore and redirect the flow of qi, or vital energy, that animates the body.

Patient Stories

"My life has changed since I met Liz Roper. My hip bursitis pain that I have had for about 20 years is gone. My energy level has been lifted up. I feel like I am in balance, and I could not be more pleased with the treatments that I have had from Liz.

I heartily recommend her for this and "whatever ails you" as my dad used to say!"
