Fertility

Acupuncture has been proven to treat infertility in both women and men, or even those simply seeking to optimize their reproductive health and wellness before conceiving. Many fertility doctors and reproductive endocrinologists actually suggest acupuncture to their patients before they even start the process, as acupuncture has long-proven success in improving IVF outcomes.

Having a baby is a process that is not always linear.

For those who have experienced infertility and/or acute or recurrent pregnancy loss, acupuncture can help patients manage the physical, mental, and spiritual effects these surprisingly common conditions so often cause. One in four women suffer PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) many months after experiencing pregnancy loss.

Acupuncture and herbs help with fertility by:

  • regulating the menstrual cycle and hormones that support conception

  • targeting increased blood flow to both the ovaries and uterus

  • supporting optimal nourishment of endometrial lining in the uterus for IVF patients 

  • increasing sperm count

  • improving sperm motility and morphology 

  • stabilizing mood 

  • stimulating release of calming neurotransmitters in the brain such as serotonin and dopamine, the latter of which is studied here for its role in anti-inflammatory response. 

 

Studies show that acupuncture combined with IVF therapies increases chances of success,  especially when acupuncture is administered at specific intervals during an IVF cycle, such as in the months and days leading up to, the day of, and the weeks following embryo transfer.
