Who We Help
Leaky Gut
At The Medicine Tree, we treat Leaky Gut Syndrome with Five Element acupuncture. We also offer Integrative Functional Medicine services, which include a powerful combination of acupuncture, properly prescribed sustainably sourced Chinese herbs, comprehensive lab testing, and nutritional counseling.
We find the paths that suit our patients best and we support them along their wellness journey.
A healthy gut is without inflammation from inflammatory foods, additives, toxins, certain viruses, or an imbalance of bacteria. It has a mucous lining that serves as a barrier between the food we eat and the blood stream.
“Leaky Gut” is the casual term to describe the loss of this functional barrier of the intestinal tract. Leaky gut is exactly what it sounds like: the gut (the intestinal tract) is leaky (things pass through that shouldn’t). A more scientific term for leaky gut is “increased intestinal permeability.” When the single-cell mucosal lining the intestine is irritated, it acts more like a sieve than a barrier. The walls of your small intestine loosen up and begins allowing undigested food particles and toxins to enter your bloodstream. When these items enter the bloodstream, your immune system reacts and begins attacking not only the food particles, but also healthy cells in the body. This immunity response often leads to food intolerances or allergies. The main causes of leaky gut are food, exposure to toxins, chronic stress and gut infections.
Symptoms of Leaky Gut Syndrome may include but aren't limited to:

-
Food allergies/food intolerances
-
Digestive problems, including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), gas, diarrhea or bloating
-
Mood disorders, such as ADHD, anxiety, or depression
-
Seasonal allergies
-
Skin conditions
-
Chronic fatigue
-
Brain fog
-
Joint issues
-
Hormonal imbalances, including PMS, menopause or polycystic ovarian syndrome
-
Autoimmune diseases
At The Medicine Tree, we treat the root cause.
We do this by learning all we can about a patient’s physical, mental and emotional state, as wellness can be achieved when these states are in balance. From a nutritional standpoint, we support our patients in learning as much as they can about their bodies and how to best nurture them. By utilizing comprehensive diagnostics such as GI-Map stool analysis or micronutrient labs, our specialists can assess underlying issues and create individualized plans that fit into each client’s unique lifestyle.
Acupuncture has long been held in high esteem for its successful treatment of inflammation. With digestive disorders, calming inflammation is paramount to bringing relief to patients suffering with symptoms that can often interfere with daily life. Bringing the body out of the stress response (i.e. surging levels of stress hormones like cortisol) is the first step to allowing healing to take place. Traditional Chinese Medicine embodies the concept that in returning the body to a balanced state, we are essentially facilitating the body’s amazing ability to heal itself.
